Types of Mould

Mould will spread in damp conditions, such as kitchens, bathrooms, basements, and rooms that aren’t regularly heated. It can also thrive in areas with many indoor plants due to excessive moisture problems.

Black Mould

This is the most common form of household mould. Active black mould is easily recognised by its wet and slimy appearance as it absorbs moisture from its surroundings. Inactive mould could be easily mistaken for dirt or grime as it clears with standard household cleaners. However, this doesn’t cure the problem, and the mould may become active again.

Usually found beneath sinks with leaky taps and shower trays, Alternaria will spread in damp areas over the late summer months.

This mould is commonly seen at the start of the year and early autumn. It spreads on powdery foods and building materials, such as drywall.

Appearing at the height of summer, Cladosporium will attack fabrics and timber surfaces, particularly in unheated rooms with poor ventilation.

Although usually associated with stale food, Penicillium can appear on wood and other biodegradable or organic substances, particularly in January and February.

Mould Eradication

Our damp proofing specialists will begin with an onsite survey to identify the type of mould in the house and its cause. Once you’re happy for us to complete the work, we’ll treat the area with specialist mould cleaners to remove all excess materials and reveal the source. This is followed by a sanitising solution, effectively killing the residue and reducing the chances of regrowth.
The affected surfaces will be thoroughly cleaned and dried, and remedial works will be completed if necessary. These include plastering, brickwork repair, rendering, repointing, tanking, and waterproofing services, where relevant.
Our damp proofing specialists wear PPE equipment throughout, and all waste is removed and responsibly disposed of.
